Sneha cracks a top US school, Purdue’s Krannert

After working as an engineer of 5 years, Sneha decided it was time to move into a different job function and more managerial roles. She came to PythaGURUS with a dream of getting into a top US business school and getting an MBA degree.

She was able to fulfill her dream as she received the acceptance letter from Purdue’s Krannert.

Here is Sneha’s MBA application journey.

Sneha’s goals story

Sneha’s initial goals story was hardly that, a goals story. She had talked about her short-term and long-term goals so briefly that they were hard to identify at first. She was from an engineering background and wanted to move into product management. However, she did not really know the details of her employability in product management post MBA.

Thus, the first thing we got her started on was research about her post-MBA goal, which included a detailed product management encyclopedia, and networking with the people currently working in the function and sector she wished to work in.

Sneha was told to find and reach out to alumni of her target schools, who were working in product management, and find out about the roles and responsibilities and the challenges of their job. This would facilitate her goals story by helping her identify the handicaps she would face in the role, without an MBA, and also the kind of career trajectory she would have.

Knowing the career trajectory of the people working in her desired role also helped Sneha identify the links between her short-term and long-term goal, and helped her create a smooth transition between the same.

Sneha’s essay analysis

One issue we encountered at the beginning of Sneha’s essay analysis was that she was writing answers in a very irresponsible tone. Rather than talking about herself and her own accomplishments or skills, she was talking about someone else’s lack of the same. This was the first thing that had to go.

Another issue with Sneha’s essays was that they felt irrelevant, simply because she failed to detail what she was talking about. She had mentioned incidents from her life but hadn’t highlighted the qualities she wished those incidents to portray.

The admissions committee members reading your essays have to read many more. The least an applicant can do is make their job a tiny bit easier by clearly mentioning the message they want to convey through their essays.

Sneha made these changes to her essays, and many more, before she and the PythaGURUS team was satisfied with the version that was to be sent to the business schools. The final versions were all we could have wanted those essays to be, precise, informative, inspired and memorable.

They can be considered one of the highest contributing factors to Sneha getting accepted to Purdue’s Krannert.
