Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business is located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The school currently ranks amongst the top 35 business schools in the world and the top 20 business schools in the USA.
The school offers various undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. The full-time MBA program at Tepper is a 16-month long program with internship opportunities for students.
The school also provides working professionals, in the Pittsburg area, the opportunity to enrol in a Flex MBA program which allows them to work while they get an MBA education.
Tepper boasts of a collaborative and team-work driven community. Since the class size of the Tepper MBA is small, the impact that each student creates on the community becomes more significant. From local tours to the brew-pub, to international trips, a Tepper MBA gets as much social exposure as a professional.

What does the Tepper admissions committee look for?
-
Keep the resume short and self-explanatory
This is simple. With every business school application, you are asked to submit an up-to-date resume. This resume should be kept as short and simple as you can keep it.
The ideal length of the resume is one page and it should only include major achievements. For anything within your resume, that you wish to explain, mention it in the optional statement section of your essays.
Also, make sure you mention dates for everything you put down in your resume as it is a requirement from the school.
Anything that doesn’t add value to your application should be left out of your resume. To mention any personal achievements/ personal growth, you have the application essays. Thus, make sure you don’t turn your resume into a saga about everything you have done since you were born.
-
Be a team player
While, you should mention skills like leadership and problem-solving in your essays, pay some special attention to your abilities as a team player and make sure to mention any incidents proving the same.
This is referring to a candidate who is willing to work hard, and smart for his/her own goals but is also ready to generously invest in the growth of his/her peers or subordinates. This quality is reflective in the answers that an applicant gives to the essay questions that Tepper poses in their application.
By simply giving authentic answers to the questions that the school is posing, you can convince them that you possess this quality.
-
Have a brief for your essays
While having a brief answer to essay questions is how I suggest attempting your essays, if you choose to write the whole thing without it it’s perfectly fine. But, make sure you create a three-line brief answer to the same.
When you get through to the interview round at Tepper, you will be asked questions that will require a long answer if unprepared. However, if you know the basics like ‘Why MBA?’, ‘Why now?’, and ‘Why Tepper?’, you’ll be able to give precise and clear answers to such questions.
A dragged-on tale is never a good answer during an interview.
All of the questions mentioned above are basically what your essays will be the longer versions of. So, having a brief of the essays will give you an answer that you can customize for such questions.
